Let’s talk about something fun today! As School Psychologists, our offices are inevitably one of the places that students are sent when they are dysregulated. It helps to have a box of tools that you can allow your students to calm down, or help to regulate themselves when they come in for groups. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had students come in that do not want to talk, and I quickly grab my bin of calming tools and slide it over the table. I tell them I’ll give them 2 minutes to use whatever they want in it, and then check in. It works so often!
All you need to put one together is really a basket or box, and some tools. I’ve shared what has been in my office calming boxes in this post, so head there if you want to see where I purchased these supplies.
The most used tools I have are the hashtag blocks from the Target Dollar Spot, Kinetic Sand, and Thinking Putty.
If you need some labels for your toolbox, I created some that fit in the Target square labels. Check them out in my Keep Calm Freebies!
