Problem Solving Skills-so important, right? Almost every student I’ve worked with over the year has needed help with this at one point or another. Today again, I’m sharing my favorite materials. A note on these, when I share tools on Material Share Monday, I’m sharing a small number of tools that I have found successful and that I use over and over again.
So let’s get to it!
First, of all, this visual is really helpful for facilitating problems between students, and when a student is really struggling with what they want to say.
When I’m teaching my kiddos about the size of the problem (usually the first step in all this), I love using this Size of the Problem Activities pack I bought on TPT. I was recreating many parts of it on my on, and I just love it. I use this all the time, especially when kids struggle and get caught on everything being a “big” problem. It’s great to have something to reference to say, “hmm, let’s think…is this an emergency…is anyone hurt? etc.”
For my younger students, who are just at a Big v. Little problem stage, I have been using this cute easy prep, Big Problem, Little Problem Super Penguins activity from TPT.
The next one is an investment, I’m not going to like. I have this Decisions Version on the Colorcards set. I originally saw the think bubbles set of these in a coworkers office years ago and fell in love with them. No doubt they are an investment, but if you have a budget to spend, they might be worth it. 🙂
Finally, I am working on putting together packet of the tools I use with this for next month’s Keep Calm Freebie. I created this visual to help students learn a problem solving process, and to get them to work through probelems in the moment. We use post it notes to brainstrom and problem solve. It’s been really effective!
